New Year, New Book

One of the problems with social networking, blogging, facebooking etc is that if you get behind or have a break; getting back into it is a bit like starting a car on a cold day.

Well it’s 2013 so Happy New Year. The car is nicely warmed up (no thanks to baking Sydney weather) and it’s going to be a big and exciting year.

On Tues the 8th of Jan, I handed over my newest book to Pan MacMillan, Australia, to start the editing process.

Although a different style of book, this latest instalment is really a natural follow on from ‘Quiet the Mind’.  It’s little book on how to create mindfulness through photography (no finalised title as yet). It’s something I’ve been practicing for the last 14 or so years. Apart from meditation, this is one of the greatest ways I can attain mindfulness in my day-to-day life because the very essence of photography is all about capturing ‘the moment’.

I’m not a technical photographer, per-say but I love light, colour, composition and most importantly how I can see the world differently. When I have a camera in my hands I consciously slow everything down and begin to look at my surroundings as if looking at them for the 1st time. To me mindfulness photography is about seeing something that no one else can, capturing something that will never happen again and finding beauty where it doesn’t typically exist.

Not exactly sure when the book will be released by I’m thinking around May, so watch this space. As much as I love to draw, it’s been wonderfully refreshing to do something different. Mj
