A month or so a go we got a new member of our family. Her name is Cookie, she is a Cavoodle which is part mop, part pillow and part one of those things you keep at the end of you bed that you stuff your PJ’s in. Apart from the toilet training learning curve, she’s been brilliant. Very sweet natured and smart as a whip. Our girls have been busting for a dog for 5 or so years and so we decided to get one. We also decided not to tell them. I still think with of the brightest moments in my childhood was when my parents sprung a puppy on me; so I wanted to keep that tradition alive. It was the first time I think I’ve seen my oldest daughter absolutely speechless, it was priceless.
One thing that I’ve truly noticed since Cookie graced us with her presence is how she has made us much more outgoing as a family. By that I mean we have to get out more which is a good thing but it’s simply amazing how many people you meet in your ‘walkies’. Dogs are an incredible conduit for meeting humans. I’m a great walker but I didn’t realise how solitary that was until we got a pooch.
My wife was not thrilled about getting a dog and needed a bit of convincing and financial incentives but Cookie now has her in her little paw.
I think the thing that I love about Cookie and pets in general and this is a universal truth is that they’re just so bloody unconditional in their love for you. The enthusiasm we are greeted with each morning or when we get home is Ground Hog Day. I fear her wagging enthusiasm will snap her in half.
I once saw a poster and it was a of a somewhat portly naked man running on a beach with dog bounding delightfully, happily along beside him. The head line said ‘It’s the wonderful thing about pets, they just don’t care.’
To everyone who has supported what I do, draw, think and say. Thank you for following, thank you your ideas, your messages and your enthusiasm. I hope 2014 is fantastic for you where ever you maybe.
Best wishes and WOOF WOOF!!!
