Went to Griffth NSW on Friday to a Mental Health Conference sponsored by the Riverina Bluebells and Black Dog Institute. It was a hugely inspiring event with incredibly brave people sharing their stories.
Rural communities have been sucker punched from all directions no thanks to droughts, floods, economic downturn and a massive change to the policies re importing foods from overseas. I spoke to high school kids in the afternoon and the local community in the evening.
One of the things that I truly love about what I do is I get to travel to places I’d never go on my own steam, meet people from every spectrum of society and hear amazing stories.
We all feel separate, different; an island if you like, through what we do, our faith, our race, our place, our socio – economic status but when you peel back all that stuff, all those layers; we all desire the same thing.
To be respected, to be fulfilled, to be listened to, to have meaningful relationships, to live with love in our lives, to have purpose and most importantly to have peace of mind because without that you don’t have much.
Thanks for having me Griffth and thanks for the ongoing lessons.
PS the car was what I was driven around in, it’s a 1963 (Australian produced) Plymouth in mint condition – a truly awesome car.
